IPL:

It’s ‘IPL’ season, now we are on the other side of summer it is the perfect time to treating both redness and pigmentation. At Clinique Elan (Hamilton Clinic) we use the gold standard Cutera Limelight IPL for treating brown spots, superficial redness and general skin rejuvenation.

How does it work?

IPL is a form of light therapy, but it is NOT laser. It is a multi purpose machine that can emit different wavelengths (colours), to enable us to treat various issues on the skin. When the appropriate wavelength is chosen, the crystal head is placed on the skin and the ‘shot’ is delivered. When the light hits its target colour: brown and/or red, the light is absorbed and converted into heat, thus destroying the target cells e.g pigment or red blood cells.

How long does it last?

Pigmentation: The light is able to penetrate to a certain depth only, so while the surface brown spots look better, the underlying pigmentation will eventually come to the surface again, so the spot will reappear. How long this takes depends on how deep the damage is, and how well the skin is looked after, particularly regarding sun protection, afterwards.

Redness: Again we are treating the symptoms only. Generalised redness often comes from Rosacea, which cannot be cured, but IPL is a great tool in the management of the problem.  Non-Rosacea redness may stay away for longer, but how the skin is looked after and protected afterwards, again determines the longevity of results.

Generally up to three treatments are required for ultimate results as the intensity and depth of the issues vary.

Prices?

Full Face IPL: $360

Spot Treatment: $150

IV Therapy

Suffering from fatigue, stress, pain or insomnia? Clinique Elan offers an exclusive IV Therapy Lounge which tailors infusions to suit the individual.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a nutrient that is found in food, such as oranges, grapefruit, kiwi, peppers, broccoli and in dietary supplements. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and helps prevent damage to cells caused by free radicals. It also works with enzymes to play a key role in making collagen. Vitamin C is also called L-ascorbic acid or ascorbate.

Used to treat the following:

-Acute and chronic stress

-Aids in recovery of viral infections e.g influenza/covid

-Skin infections

-Pre/post surgery

-Chronic fatigue

Magnesium

What is Magnesium? Magnesium effectively enhances the function of the muscular and nervous systems. Your body needs magnesium to perform over 300 biochemical reactions necessery to sustain life. Magnesium is also a natural calcium channel blocker that helps reduce the workload of the heart.

Used to treat the following:

-Anxiety is often treated with prescription medication. Many doctors do not consider that a lack of magnesium can stress your body and create or worsen anxiety. The Magnesium has proven effective in the treatment of anxiety in many of our patients.

-Cardiac Arrhythmias Magnesium deficiency causes major stress on the muscular system. The most important muscle in the human body is the heart. There is an intricate connection between Magnesium and the heart’s electrical stability. Magnesium deficiency may cause irregular heartbeats commonly known as arrhythmias. Magnesium IV therapy results in relaxation of the heart and dilates the blood vessels. This allows the heart to work more efficiently.

-Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Some reports suggest the Magnesium may be helpful in lessening the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome.

-Fibromyalgia is a serve deficiency of Magnesium can cause the muscles in the body to constantly spasm. Since the muscular and nervous systems are both involved in the symptoms of Fibromyalgia, there is believed to be link between the disease and a deficiency in Magnesium. Balancing of the levels of Magnesium in your body through Magnesium Drop therapy at the Health and Vitality Center can improve and deter the symptoms of Fibromyalgia.

-Hypertension Magnesium is a powerful vasodilator. When blood vessels are dilated, blood pressure comes down dramatically.
